Hi KpopWise readers, Happy Black History Month! Over the past decades, Kpop has taken much inspiration from music created by Black artists. There are many Kpop songs that have been written or produced by Black songwriters and producers. Here at KpopWise, we want to give visibility to Black artists and tell their stories.

Recently we were lucky enough to be granted an interview with the singer/songwriter Miles B who is actively working on music and has placements on Kpop artists as well.  We discuss his musical inspirations and aspirations, being a proud new father, and more.

Can you introduce yourself to our readers/viewers?

Hello, my name is Miles Barker, I go by Miles B.

I’m a singer, songwriter, producer from Buffalo, New York. I do a lot of genres of music so there’s never really a box I can be put in lol.

When did you know that you wanted to write music?

So growing up I was more focused on the artist side of music writing my own songs and everything. My dad always told me I should get into the songwriting side of music to basically widen my range of things in the industry. So I decided to give it a try and learn more of the writing styles and certain formulas with writing and now I’m here.

What are some things that give you inspiration for writing songs?

Some things that give me inspiration to write are my family, friends who are basically family, the world in general, traveling, and certain interactions I have amongst some people because it’s dope writing about somebody else's story.

What is your creative process like?

So for my creative process, I just sit in my studio right in front of the microphone and just start recording melodies first because that helps me get an idea of what I want then grow off of that.

Who are Kpop artists you have had a collaboration with or written for?

I wrote for two Kpop artists/groups so far, Ha Sung Woon and OnlyOneOf.

Ha Sung Woon - "Without You"

OnlyOneOf - "Ultimate Bliss"

Are there any artists that you haven’t worked with that you would love to?

The main artist that I always wanted to work with is Michael Jackson but obviously, we know that can’t happen now, so Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Drake, on the female side Ariana Grande, Kehlani many I can name from, definitely want to get to BTS eventually but in due time.

When is the moment you've felt the most proud?

The moment I feel the most proud is really anytime I can bless my parents and make them happy, and my girl and our son.

What is a challenge you've overcome?

Challenges I’ve overcome are really an inside mental thing because your mental can be the biggest negative or positive in anything in your career so just keep a positive mindset throughout life, oh and college because I didn't want to go, my parents made me lol. I got my degree though so it turned out alright.

What is your life motto?

Life motto is cliché but just live life and enjoy every moment of it because you never know who’s going to go, or whenever you’re going to go yourself, so enjoy it and stay positive.

When it’s not music, what else do you enjoy doing?

If I’m not making music I’m either spending time with my girl and our son or playing videos games or every now and then some outdoor sport activities

What can we expect from you next?

Currently working on A LOT, don’t want to speak too much about it, but just have to wait and see what’s to come next!
