[Exclusive Interview] Diving into the Depths with oceanfromtheblue

oceanfromtheblue is a Seoul-based R&B singer-songwriter featuring euphonious vocals and sweet lyrics. oceanfromtheblue began writing songs while in university and built a fierce following online before making his debut in 2018. He evokes a deep blue melancholy, gilded with glints of warmth through his haunting vocals and instrumentals.

His music's message is reaching the valley of emotion that each of us has via colorful music like the ever-changing ocean. His sweet vocals and easy-to-listen melodies have been featured on many emotional playlists and secured a large fan base.

Each song captures a bittersweet brand of romance, from the fragility of "mistaken" to the wistful wonder of "sherlock." It's music that soothes the soul.

In 2022 he appeared on his first televised performance on MBN's Avatar Singer while performing on stages like 'Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival,' 'Seoul International Music Fair (MU: CON),' and four joint shows in Europe, and releasing his 2 track single album "Come Back Home" on November 22.

"Come Back Home (잠자리)" is a pre-release project opening up two tracks from his first full-length album that's on the way. The lead track, 'Come Back Home' is a disco-pop infused R&B track that relays the painful feelings of rejection in a tempered tone. The former member of girl group CLCYeeun's feature adds more grace to the warm lyricism. The b-side track 'Treasure (나무라지 말아요)' is another R&B delicacy with alternative sounds to add more flavor. Talk about an artsy way to channel one's own thoughts on transitioning into adulthood.

The single "Come Back Home" was released as a special gift for fans who have been waiting for his first full-length album, which is expected to release this year in 2023.

KpopWise caught up with oceanfromtheblue to learn a little more about the artist.

Can you tell us about your songs 'Come Back Home' and 'Treasure'?

Two songs from the full-length album, "Come Back Home" and "Treasure," were pre-released. They're made with a band sound and made up of content that many people can relate to.

You turn your music player on shuffle; what is the first song that plays?

What Are We? by Inayah (I really did it )

Do you have any other hobbies or talents that are non-music related to music?

It's so much fun to work out, and I want to try acting if I have a chance in my next life.

What hair color and style would you like to try?

I had pink hair before and I really liked it. I want to do it again next time. :)

What is the best advice you have ever received?

I'm determined not to ponder on the mistakes I've made myself, but I think that helps a lot. It makes me change.

What was the most memorable gift you received in your whole life?

Sometimes, fans draw my pictures for me, and I'm very thankful for that.

What is something you want to learn?

I want to act from some point. As a villain lol.

What motivates you to keep working hard and do your best?

There are a lot of other reasons, but what I've realized these days is that I have a lot of desire for fame. I want to be an amazing person when others see me. I guess that's what drives me.

What is a message you would give to your fans?

I think I always live for a better tomorrow than yesterday, even when it feels fierce sometimes.

I hope we can live in a world where we comfort each other and give each other strength.

Is there anything else I can say? Please continue to support me in the future. :) Happy New Year!

Anything else?

Oh, I've been eating a lot of sweet potatoes lately, eat a lot of sweet potatoes!
