[Exclusive Interview] A Chat with BANGKOK: Producer and Songwriter for EXO, ITZY and More

Ever wondered who was behind your favourite tracks? Who wrote the lyrics, did the arrangement, and composition? Look no further! We got the chance to talk with one of these masterminds who was probably responsible for some of your favourite songs!

BANGKOK, AKA David Anthony, is a British producer who has Written some of your favourite songs from acts such as ITZYEXO, LOONA, TWICE, OH MY GIRLTHE BOYZ and most recently the CHILL KILL album by RED VELVET

We at KpopWise were lucky enough to grab a quick chat with the producer, and learn a little more about the man behind the hits. Hear what he has to say here!

Could you introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your work?

I am a multi platinum-selling producer and writer from London, and I've had hits with artists such as Red Velvet, ITZY, EXO, EXO-CBX, TWICE, THE BOYZ, Everglow, WEEEKLY, woo!ah!, KARD, BAP,  LOONA, OH MY GIRL and many more.

You've worked in K-Pop for a while. What drew you to the genre?

I was happy to be able to make pop music in a market where you can make good money still due to physical album sales.

Out of all your creations, which project was your favourite and why?

Probably EXO-CBX because I wrote and produced the whole song by myself. It is very rare these days for one person to create a whole song alone, so I was proud :-)

Talk us through your process - what's your favourite part and how do you come to create these songs?

It can start anyway at all. Sometimes with a melody, sometimes with drums... and then I go deep into making it as great as possible.

What would be your dream project? Whether it be with a particular artist or sub-genre you want to work with.

I'd love to produce a song for Coldplay or Usher or someone like that, or work with the writers of "Les Miserables" the musical.

What song(s) do you consider to be an absolute masterpiece?

"Fast car" by Tracy Chapman, "Fix You" by Coldplay, "Your Song" by Elton John. So many but those, I find, touch my soul.

Is there a genre that you haven't done that you'd like to try?

Yes - musicals!

What's next for BANGKOK? Can we expect anything new soon?

Plenty of stuff coming in the new year.

How mysterious!

We wonder what the platinum-selling, musical-loving producer will be up to next. Will we have a new hit on our hands? Or maybe something completely different! Be sure to keep and eye out to see what else could possibly come, and be sure to follow KpopWise for more!
