Mark Tuan Launches a New Era with his Single “High As You”

Fridays are all about new music, and today’s pick of the day goes to Mark Tuan. Fresh from the anticipated GOT7 11th debut anniversary and their return from a three-year hiatus. Fans will be delighted to hear more new music from one of the members.

High As You marks an exciting new chapter in his journey with Transparent Arts. The release will serve as a pre-release for his forthcoming comeback that will be launched later on in the year.

With his relaxing and soft vocals, the new single is a hauntingly romantic alt-pop track. Produced by Captain Cuts (known for working with Benson Boone, Måneskin, Sabrina Carpenter, and Halsey), the song perfectly captures the nostalgic feeling of summer love. It’s easily a summer vibe track, one to put on for a drive or for simple chilling too. It navigates a sense of bittersweet memories of summer romances that bring a certain high you never knew you felt until it’s gone.

The melodies are warm and soothing, which showcases a more vulnerable and raw side to Mark, who typically is known as GOT7’s main rapper. That sense of vulnerability and intimate perspective is heard in the lyrics, but it’s in the pre-chorus where the song steps up a gear and reveals a more mature expression brought on by the various highs brought by the significant other. “I'm losing my mind/ The thought of you with nothing but my t-shirt/I like the way you bite your lip/The way you tempt me. /I might, I might have to admit that/ I'm addicted; it's true.”

Those seductive melodies are reflected nicely in the striking choreography, though while the slow moves are sensual, they have a layer of vulnerability. This is exactly what Mark aims to showcase: the raw and intimate emotions we hear in the lyrics. High as You marks an exciting and important milestone for Mark as he explores a new sound as well as taking a bold step to redefining his musical identity. That much is clear on High As You, a perfect track as he steps into his next chapter.
