[Exclusive] Interview with Singer BROOKLYN (브루클린)

BROOKLYN is a young singer who has received top training from the same vocal coach of Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, and more notable musicians. He has been praised for his incredible voice and performance ability. He even held the lead role in the High School Musical and headlined Canada's K-pop Con.

BROOKLYN officially debuted in Korea in August 2019, with his single "Young Love." Although the difficulties of Covid-19 had abrupted his activities like many artists, he is determined to provide comfort to his fans (Butterflies). He held a free virtual mini-concert in summer 2020, and released his single "IMAGINE" in November 2020.

BROOKLYN is making waves in the music field, and we are grateful for the opportunity to learn more about him in our conversation.

When did you start music?

My first singing performance was when I was 8 years old. I was also given piano lessons when I was young, which I didn’t like as much. I enjoy playing the piano, I just didn't like learning how.

What is your inspiration?

I get inspiration from all kinds of places including movies, television series, video games, and other music artists. I really enjoy meeting other artists because I often learn a lot from their experiences.

How do you describe your style?

My music style is very vocal because my songs rely more on my singing than on the instrumental.

What is your creative process like?

Playing a variety of video games is extremely important for my creativity. Video games offer me a world where I can choose my destiny. In my performance and M/V, I also can choose my destiny in a similar way.

Can you tell us about your song “IMAGINE”?

'IMAGINE' is a seductive song about imagining a forbidden romance. In the M/V, I portray someone who discovers strength in this fantasy. It’s both a deep and relatable feeling, in my opinion.

Do you have any other hobbies or non-music related talents?

I know how to make an omelette and I am not so bad at drawing!

What is something you want to learn?

I did archery a little bit as a child, and I would like to improve at that.

What is the best advice you ever received?

George Lucas said that “Dreams are extremely important. You can’t do it unless you imagine it.”

What is a message you want to give to your fans?

Stay strong and take it easy! I hope all my fans can find new ways to enjoy 2021. I am grateful that we can connect through the internet, even though I cannot perform in person right now. As always, thank you for the support.

Please stay tuned for the release of ‘IMAGINE (English Ver.)’ on May 7th and IMAGINE GLOBAL VIDEO CALL EVENT. We are working on new music for this year as well!
