Nominated for "Best Group" is BTS (up against American acts Imagine Dragons, Jonas Brothers, and Silk Sonic, British act Little Mix, and Eurovision-winning Italian act Maneskin).

The worldwide chart-topping HYBE group were also nominated in the "Best Pop" category (up against Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, and Olivia Rodrigo).

The MTV EMAs also include a "Best K-pop" category this year. The nominees in the category include:

  • BTS
  • Lisa
  • Monsta X
  • NCT 127
  • Rose
  • Twice
Under the "Biggest Fans" category includes Blackpink and BTS, who are respectively the biggest girl and boy groups in the world. Their fans are up against the fans of Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift.

The awards ceremony also features a regional award section, including a category for "Best Korean Act". The nominees in this category include:
  • Aespa
  • Cravity
  • STAYC
  • Weeekly
  • WEi
This is a big year for K-pop at the MTV EMAs, with more nominations than in any other year.

The awards ceremony has not been without controversy, though. Being held at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna in Hungary, there was criticism over the choice of location due to Hungary's relatively recent adoption of anti-LGBT+ laws.
