8 Out of 13 Members of WJSN Renew their Contracts with Starship Ent.

On March 3rd, Starship Entertainment announced that 5 of the original 13 members of girl group WJSN will be leaving the company after choosing not to renew their contracts - 3 members who were promoting in China (Xuanyi, Cheng Xiao, and Meiqi), and 2 active members of the group in Korea (Luda and Dawon).

In 2018 three Chinese members Xuanyi, Cheng Xiao, and Meiqi joined Yuehua Entertainment to focus on promotions in China, leaving 10 in Korea to promote as a group. After approaching their 7 year anniversary, fans (or UJUNG's) feared that the group may fall prey to the "7 Year Curse" - where groups are known to typically disband after their 7th year of promoting. This came partially true as only 8 members chose to continue as members of WJSN. Starship Entertainment released the following statement:

"Hello, this is Starship Entertainment.

First of all, we would like to offer our sincerest gratitude to Korean and International UJUNG's who continue to support and love WJSN.

Starship Entertainment has recently renewed contracts of 8 members of Cosmic girls; Exy, Seola, Bona, Soobin, Eunseo, Yeoreum, Dayoung, and Yeonjung.

The agency carried out honest and in-depth discussions with members Luda and Dawon, and unfortunately, our exclusive contracts have come to an end. We would like to express our deep gratitude to Luda and Dawon for their hard work and dedication. Starship respects the decisions of Luda and Dawon and support them in their new activities.

In addition, we would like to inform you that the three members of Yuehua Entertainment Xuanyi, Cheng Xiao, and Meiqi, who promoted as Cosmic Girls will also terminate their contracts.

For the eight WJSN members who decided to renew their contracts based on mutual trust and loyalty, Starship Entertainment will make every effort and provide full systematic support so that the members can shine more brightly in various fields.

We ask for warm encouragement and support for the WJSN members who are standing in front of a new starting line.

Thank you."

Fans were shocked at the news regarding the "Queendom 2" winners, but still wish all the best for the members who left to pursue their own endeavours. They now wait to see what the girl group has in store for them next.
