Since her breakout success on The Voice Korea and The Masked Singer, Sonnet has been recognised as one of South Korea’s most formidable vocalists. Known for her soulful delivery and ability to move audiences with both power and nuance, she continues to push boundaries as a singer, songwriter, and producer.
South Korea’s celebrated vocalist Son Seung-yeon, widely known as Sonnet, returns with a powerful new single, “Wishing for Rain.” Written, composed, and produced entirely by Son herself, the track offers a poignant reflection on heartbreak, resilience, and the slow process of healing.
Best known for her electrifying performances on The Masked Singer and as one of Korea’s most dynamic rising divas, Sonnet has long captivated audiences with her unmatched vocal power and emotional depth. With “Wishing for Rain,” she invites listeners into her most vulnerable chapter yet.
The ballad, built on delicate piano arrangements and Sonnet’s soulful vocal delivery, was born during one of the most emotionally challenging times in her life. The inspiration came from an offhand comment by her mother one rainy afternoon: “Even after cleaning, everything still feels damp on a day like this. I wish it would just rain harder and wash everything away.” From that moment, Son found the lyrical core of the song, the idea that sometimes we long for something powerful enough to wash away lingering pain, even as we know healing can’t happen in an instant.

“This song isn’t just about a breakup,” Son shares. “Through the metaphor of rain, I wanted to express what it feels like to live with the memories of someone you wish you could forget, the fear of loving again, and the question of whether you still have the strength to face yourself.”
The chorus line, “If it’s not the rain, but if it were you, could I forget you?”, encapsulates that yearning, balancing fragility with Sonnet Son’s trademark vocal intensity.
