Anyone who has ever felt stuck in the friend zone, or has conflicting romantic feelings, then BTS V has just the song to guide you through your troubles and find solace. The singer known for his dulcet vocal tones has released his brand new single, 'FRI(END)S’. Described by BigHit as “rooted in the pop soul R&B genre, delivers relatable and witty romance through lyrics.” And relatable it is indeed, and clearly it's a genre that he easily excels at.

It’s the pre-chorus that plays into those vocals, with the heartfelt lyrics written by V and sung in English. The song acts like a memory book as he reflects on their friendship to the present day. It's in the chorus that he explores the challenges and frustrations, as he tries to make sense of his emotions. “Friends, just for now, yeah, but friends don't say words that make friends feel like more than just friends, just for now (just for now), declaring that “I'm over pretending, so let's put the "end" in friends.” Just like many good love stories, there's no clear ending for now, and the pining continues.

However, it's the comedic music video that was released alongside the track that amps up his irritation at seeing loved-up couples wherever he goes. Awaking to two V’s in his bed, if one was to dig deeper, could it be that the only love that matters is the relationship with yourself? It’s laden with context, meanings, and fun visuals, which is always expected with whatever V releases. What FRI(END)S gets right is the balance of angst, and it’s his harmonies that propels the chorus, leaving you no other choice but to sing along loudly.

The new single follows the September release of his first solo debut album 'Layover', the six tracks was the perfect feel good EP that encapsulated summertime. Before leaving for his military duty in December, V revealed to fans in a Weverse post that he had plenty of projects lined up for fans to enjoy while he is away.
